This exclusive one-day event, held at the Google Cloud offices in Sunnyvale, was a special in-person get together limited to 500 attendees. It brought together software developers from various backgrounds to discuss the latest trends and advancements in the tech industry. Among the standout observations were the widespread adoption of large language models (LLMs) and the significant presence of startup companies among the attendees.

One striking trend that emerged from the conference was how nearly everyone is incorporating large language models (LLMs) into product offerings. From discussions and presentations, it became evident that the vast majority of software developers are actively working on projects involving LLMs and core machine learning. Even talks on topics like Kubernetes revolved around the machine learning development pipeline, showcasing the growing significance of LLMs in the industry.

The presence of startup companies was also particularly noteworthy, with approximately 75% of the conference attendees representing these innovative ventures. This trend was mirrored in the panel discussion titled "Founders in AI," featuring five recent founders of AI start-up companies. The emphasis on entrepreneurial endeavors further underscored the dynamic landscape and the entrepreneurial spirit within the AI and machine learning domain.

Daniel gave a presentation on decision analysis techniques and how they can (and should) be used to manage your in-house cybersecurity, which is of course a sweet spot for Analytica. His marketplace is centered around an LLM-based concierge who helps companies navigate the space of cybersecurity products.

Throughout the event, Lonnie and Ryan had the opportunity to network with other attendees and gain insights into intriguing application areas of AI and machine learning. Notable examples included a system that drafts clinical plans and reports for social workers in the healthcare space. A system that helps non-native language learners evaluate how understable their utterances are (as distinct from how natural they are -- having an accent is different from not being understandable). A system that designs and creates personalized curriculum for young kids based on their genetic profile. They claim that their ML system can determine which teaching styles work better for a student from analyzing a 23-and-me-type genetic sample. The conference exuded an electric atmosphere, with attendees brimming with enthusiasm for the latest advancements in AI and machine learning. Lonnie and Ryan were particularly thrilled as they are actively working on utilizing LLM technology to develop an Analytica AI assistant.

Stay tuned to this AI series for details and updates on that project.
